Still haven’t gave in to the POGO Craze? Here is what you need to know about Pokemon Go!

“I want to be the very best, like no one ever was! To catch them is my real test, to train them is my cause!” That’s right, you know the words. Every kid, yours truly included, was singing this around 15 years ago, when a phenomenon called Pokemon was growing with each day. Not to mention that everybody wanted to be a trainer and catch them all, but, except buying some toys, they were pretty far from their dream.

Nobody was expecting such a success!

However, 2016 brought them a bit close, after Nintendo’s decision to shake the app market (and the whole world, if we thing twice) and launch Pokemon Go. The app, which is already considered the most popular in the United States, was launched yesterday in the United Kingdom, the fifth place worldwide where the game is officially available. As a side note, Nintendo shares have risen in value by over 50 percent since the launch.

The developers were initially planning a global rollout, but thanks to the unexpectedly high volume of downloads in the U.S., Australia and New Zeeland, which caused it to crash, it was delayed for a few days. Pokemon Go is also available in Germany, the first European country to get it.

How to play Pokemon Go

For those of you who aren’t aware of what this app is all about, you should know that it’s based on augmented reality. Using your phone’s camera and GPS, you can wander around your area and search for Pokemons. As soon as one appears on the map, you open the camera and you will see it displayed over the environment. Throwing a Pokeball at it should allow you to catch it, but it’s not that easy as it seems…

And you’re not only catching Pokemons, but you can also use them in battles against other players in Pokemon gyms, which are real-world landmarks. Players can also visit Pokestops, usually buildings, and collect free items.

Right after starting the game, you can choose a starter: Bulbasaur, Charmander or Squirtle, the exact starters offered in the first Pokemon games. But we know you all want Pikachu, so if you walk away from the three, you do get the chance to catch him.

Of course, the more Pokemon you catch, the more experience points you’ll earn and level up, giving you access to new features in the game.

If you’re living in the UK, you can get Pokemon Go for free from the App Store, if you’re running iOS, or from the Play Store, if you’re on Android.

For those of you who couldn’t wait and already got the APK version or used an U.S. account to get it on iPhones and iPads, now’s the time to reinstall it from UK stores, in order to make sure everything runs properly.

However, you might find it a bit difficult to create a new account, if you don’t have one, due to the high demand for the app. On the other side, if you have a Google account, you shouldn’t encounter any issues.

“The enthusiastic response to the launch of Pokemon Go has been tremendous and inspiring. We’re aware of the server issues that our players have been experiencing and are working around the clock to resolve them as soon as possible,” Nintendo said in an official statement.

Player safety is essential, warn the game makers

Like expected, some players were captivated by the game and, while keeping their eyes in their phones, they weren’t paying a lot of attention to the surroundings, multiple accidents caused by Pokemon Go being already reported.

“We take player safety seriously and want everybody to have a fantastic time exploring while safely playing Pokemon Go,” the makers of the game said.

“We encourage all people to be aware of their surroundings and to play with friends or family, especially when you’re exploring unfamiliar places. Please remember to be safe and alert at all times, don’t drive and play, abide by local laws, and respect the locations you visit and people you meet during your exploration.”

Keeping it short, don’t forget about the reality when playing Pokemon Go! Oh, and make sure you have a spare battery with you if you’re planning a long Pokemon catching session. This game can drain it insanely fast!
