Over the past days, there were a lot of rumors about Riyad Mahrez’s potential move to Arsenal, after Leicester received a serious offer for the Algerian winger who played a vital role in the Foxes road to winning their first ever EPL title.
Despite Arsenal saying that they’re more interesting in Borussia Dortmund’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan, they seem to be back with pursuing Mahrez, who is closer than ever to a move on The Emirates. Considering this, the next move for Leicester would be to start looking for a replacement, if the transfer will be confirmed.
According to Goal.com, the Premier League champions are interested in Nice’s Hatem Ben Arfa, one of Ligue 1’s stars from last season, managing to score 17 times and registering six assists. Currently, the player is out of contract and we is available on a free transfer, but Leicester isn’t the only teams wanting his signature.
Hatem Ben Arfa has also received offers from Sevilla and French champions Paris Saint-Germain. Like expected, the latter would be a much more attractive destination for the French man, but it will be hard for him to be a part of the starting 11. A move outside Ligue 1 would be much better, allowing him to play as much as possible and secure a place in France’s national team, from which he’s currently missing.
Leicester can bring the player to King Power stadium, though. If Mahrez will indeed leave, Ben Arfa might be tempted to accept their offer, since this will grant him Champions League football next season. Also, it’s rumored that PSG aren’t considering him a priority, but this might as well change, as Laurent Blanc was replaced by Unai Emery as manager.
Hatem Ben Arfa isn’t the only player Leicester is interested in, as Claudio Ranieri was also trying to attract Southamption’s Victor Wanyama, after he refused a new contract. However, Tottenham was the player’s choice, after the clubs agreed for a 11 million fee and the midfielder is expected to complete the medical in the next days.
