Leicester is getting ready for Armed Forces Day

The preparations for this month’s Armed Forces Day commemorations are under way, as hundreds of veterans, cadets and service men and women will attend the parade dedicated to the Leicestershire’s service personnel, scheduled for June 25.

The event is expected to begin at 9:30 am, with a showcase of military vehicles, information stands, music and working dogs in Humberstone Gate, says Leicester Mercury. Shortly after, at 10:30, there will be a special service, held at the Leicester Cathedral, featuring the Cottesmore Military Wives Choir, followed by a spectacular troop parade.

“The parade will be made up of regular and reservist personnel, veterans, and sea, Army and air cadets. It will number about 400,” said the Armed Forces Day organizer, Tim Webster, from the Leicestershire County Council civic affairs office.

“This year there will also be military vehicles and recruitment stands in Humberstone Gate, as well as performances by the Seaforth Highlanders Pipes and Drums and the Army Cadet Force Corps of Drums,” he added.

However, this won’t be the only parade organized in Leicester during that weekend. Hinckley, Argents Mead and Castle Street will also host some great events. Also, on Sunday, June 26, everybody is expected at Market Harborough to see another commemorative parade, featuring cadets, youth organizations and veterans. The event will begin at 2 pm in the afternoon, from High Street towards The Square.

“This is a very popular annual event in the town and offers the community the chance to recognise the contribution made by the armed forces and to thank them,” Councillor Russ Roberts, armed forces champion at Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council declared. “This is a very popular annual event in the town and offers the community the chance to recognise the contribution made by the armed forces and to thank them,” he added.

In a nutshell, there’s an amazing weekend ahead, so if you’re in the area, this year’s Armed Forces Day is an event that shouldn’t be missed!
